Reconstructions

2012, 21min, HD, 2-channel video installation, 16:9, original language Finnish with English subtitles

The video installation Reconstructions deals with the subjective interpretation of images and the reading as an act of creating new images. A 14-year old girl describes a selection of pictures in her own words. The selected images are representations of a woman seen in films, photographs and paintings. The subjective stories thus created provide a script for cinematic scenes. The title of the work refers also to the location of the film: home museum of Alvar Aalto – as it can be seen as another version of a reconstruction.

Reconstructions, installation view, Helsinki Art Museum (HAM), Tennis Palace, Helsinki, 14th of February – 13th of June, 2014
